Wild and Crazy Street Dancers Wanted for History-Making Men’s Mardi Gras Krewe of Axe-Idents!

Re-Krewecruiting Event Set for Sunday, May 18, at Beerfoot Beach Bar in Galveston

GALVESTON, Texas (May 13, 2025) – Get ready to see a wild and crazy group of bearded and brawny entertainers during Mardi Gras! Galveston parades next year! Axe-Idents will be happening in the streets when (alleged) adult men shake, rattle and roll for miles to bring smiles for kids of all ages.

Founded by Brandon Bracewell, the Krewe of Axe-Idents is making history as the first men’s marching and dancing Mardi Gras krewe based in Galveston. Bracewell, along with Krewe of Axe-Idents fans and followers, will host a re-Krewecruiting event on Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Beerfoot Beach Bar. Beerfoot Beach Bar is located at 2816 Ave. R ½, Galveston, Texas. There is no cost to attend. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Bracewell has been affiliated with the Tutu Live Krewe, an award-winning women’s Mardi Gras Krewe based in Galveston, for over two years as a member of the Tuxedoes men’s Tutu Live Krewe support group. He said that interest in an all-men’s Mardi Gras dance krewe has been steadily growing.

“Tutu Live Krewe founder Donna Swartz and my significant other Leah Cox encouraged me to form a men’s dance krewe – so I did! The Krewe of Axe-Idents is a brotherhood of men united by a shared passion for performing, community engagement, and Mardi Gras celebrations. We aim to bring joy to others, embrace traditions, and foster lasting bonds with each other while serving non-profit organizations through volunteer activities,” Bracewell said.

A native of Moss Hill in southeast Texas,  Bracewell said he decided on the name of the krewe “quite by axe-ident.” He said that members of the krewe will wear green, sleeveless plaid shirts and denim short shorts as the base of their costumes, and they will dance (perhaps not so well) to a wide range of Funk and Top 40 songs.

Recruiting season will run now through November, with a goal of signing up 40-50 men aged 27 and older as members who will perform in 2026 Galveston area Mardi Gras parades. Dues are $180 per person for the first year.

Officers of the Krewe of Axe-Idents are as follows:

●    Brandon Bracewell, president
●    Luis Huerta, vice president
●    To be determimed, secretary
●    Matt Bruzek, treasurer

Lead choreographers are Crystal Titsworth-Barker and Renee Marcela Hinojosa, who are also members of the Tutu Live Krewe Choreography Team.

The Krewe of Axe-Idents is a non-profit organization that was founded in April 2025.  For more information, please visit www.kreweofaxeidents.com and follow the krewe on Facebook and Instagram.
